Today’s Avenged Yet Truly Morbid Fact!<\/strong><\/p>\n

11-year-old Jody Plauche of Baton Rouge, Louisiana had been studying karate with 25-year-old Jeff Doucet as his instructor. Unfortunately, Doucet had been molesting Jody for months. In February of 1984, Doucet kidnapped Jody and took him to California, where the sexual abuse continued. After a nationwide search, Doucet was captured at a motel without incident and Jody was rescued and reunited with his family in Louisiana.<\/p>\n

Jody’s father, Gary Plauche, was distraught and told a TV reporter that he felt helpless and didn’t know what to do. On March 16, 1984, Gary Plauche made a decision. That Friday night, around 9:30 PM, Jeff Doucet landed at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, extradited from California. Plauche was tipped off to Doucet’s arrival by a news reporter, and he was ready. As Doucet was led in handcuffs past TV cameras, Plauche stepped away from a bank of pay phones, raised a pistol, and fired point-blank at Doucet. Doucet is believed to have been dead even before his body hit the floor. Plauche then laid down the gun and surrendered.<\/p>\n

The entire incident was captured on film, including a police officer’s horrified question “Gary, why? Why, Gary?” Plauche answered simply “If that was your child, you would have done the same thing.”<\/p>\n

Plauche was originally charged with second-degree murder but eventually pleaded no contest to manslaughter. He received five years of probation and was required to perform 300 hours of community service, which he did. The footage of his killing of Jeff Doucet has been widely used in documentaries, most notably “Bowling For Columbine” and is a popular Youtube video.<\/p>\n

Jody Plauche is at last report a public speaker, lecturing on problems of sexual violence and offering support to victims. His father Gary says he does not regret his own actions, and by and large, nobody else regrets them either.<\/p>\n
