{"id":7883,"date":"2022-10-01T20:19:39","date_gmt":"2022-10-02T01:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.decidedlygrim.net\/?p=7883"},"modified":"2022-10-01T20:19:39","modified_gmt":"2022-10-02T01:19:39","slug":"mfdj-10-1-2022-children-hot-springs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.decidedlygrim.net\/?p=7883","title":{"rendered":"MFDJ 10\/1\/2022: Children &#038; Hot Springs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"null\">Today&#8217;s Superheated Yet Truly Morbid Fact!<\/h3>\n<p>On September 13, 1949, little Karen Lee Anderson, four-and-a-half-years old, of Grand Coulee Dam, Washington, was visiting Black Sand Basin near Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park with her mother.\u00a0 At 11:30 a.m. she pulled away from her mother, ran to a hot spring near the creek, and fell into it.\u00a0 Karen sustained second- and third-degree burns over ninety percent of her body.\u00a0 She died very quickly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/c6b93ffeed2f362e41fe4aa72\/images\/6ef8dc5b-ccc9-c814-ad47-9750d2b78358.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusercontent.com\/c6b93ffeed2f362e41fe4aa72\/images\/6ef8dc5b-ccc9-c814-ad47-9750d2b78358.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"133\" data-file-id=\"7234457\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Black Sand Basin<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Karen Anderson was probably fortunate to succumb quickly.\u00a0 Danny Lewis of Austin, Minnesota, was not so lucky.\u00a0 The six-year-old boy was fishing with his father, William Lewis, on the Firehole River on June 13, 1958.\u00a0 His misstep happened at the large hot spring named Ojo Caliente (Spanish for hot springs) in Lower Geyser Basin.\u00a0 Danny P.
