{"id":1824,"date":"2018-02-04T14:16:25","date_gmt":"2018-02-04T20:16:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.decidedlygrim.net\/sightseer\/?p=1824"},"modified":"2018-02-04T14:16:25","modified_gmt":"2018-02-04T20:16:25","slug":"spallanzani-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.decidedlygrim.net\/sightseer\/?p=1824","title":{"rendered":"Spallanzani Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.musei.re.it\/en\/collections\/palazzo-dei-musei-museums-palace\/18371-2\/\">The Spallanzani Museum<\/a> (Reggio Emilia, Italy)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lazzaro Spallanzani (1729-1799) was a Catholic priest, biologist and physiologist (I guess back then those three things went together?) who, according to Wikipedia, &#8220;made important contributions to the experimental study of bodily functions, animal reproduction, and animal echolocation.&#8221;\u00a0 During his lifetime he amassed a large collection of specimens which, upon his death, ended up in a gallery at the Palazzo dei Musei\u00a0in the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Italy.\u00a0 It&#8217;s generally just an old-style zoology collection, but there are quite a few curiosities as well, like two-headed snakes in jars and stuffed cows with legs coming out of their shoulders and that sort of thing.
