Morbid Fact Du Jour For May 23, 2011

Today’s 5-Foot-Deep Yet Truly Morbid Fact!

3-year-old Jordy Marmoejo died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 after falling into a pit of oil outside a market in southern New Jersey. Police say they received a 911 call from Cidra Market in Vineland, 40 miles south of Philadelphia, reporting that the child may have fallen into a hole at the rear of the business. Officers were directed to a 5-foot-deep pit that appeared to have been normally covered by an iron manhole cover. The cover hade been removed so that workers could dump more oil and other kitchen debris from the restaurant. Officers were told witnesses saw Marmoejo falling into the open pit, but the boy could not be located by workers. Vineland EMS Chief Al Lincks and two firefighters were able to remove the boy after two to three minutes but were not able to revive him. Marmoejo is apparently the son of one of the Cidra Market’s owners. He would have turned four next week. The family lives across the street from the market. They also have a six-year-old boy.
