Morbid Fact Du Jour For July 19, 2011

Today’s Well-Ventilated Yet Truly Morbid Fact!

Investigators said a dead woman found in the ductwork of an Austin, Texas, restaurant was trying to enter the facility through its ventilation system. Jamie Minor, 26, missing since late May, apparently became trapped and died between the first and second floors of the building, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported. Police Cmdr. Julie O’Brien said surveillance camera footage from the building shows that Minor first tried to get into Perry’s Steakhouse through a side door. What we believe for reasons we don’t quite understand yet is that Jamie entered the parking garage, went to the third floor and forced entry into the duct system, attempting to get into the restaurant that was located on the ground floor because she had a friend who worked there. Medical examiners are working to determine Minor’s exact cause of death. Her body was retrieved Saturday, June 25, 2011 after personal items belonging to Minor were found near an exhaust vent grate in the building’s parking garage.

  1. Okay….so I am the GM of a restaurant and how in the hell could someone be in your ductwork for several months, in Texas, in SUMMER, and no one smell anything?!?!?! That must have been some funky steak they were cooking to cover that up!

Oh, my dear Comtesse! You do not know the joys of Livingston Parish, Louisiana. Even the women there are known to say, “Hey, watch this sh*t!”
Um, so she had been in there for a month? EWW!!! Talk about “Sick Building Syndrome”.

  3. Uh, yup.

Had a case here in Baltimore a few years back. Some guy tried to slip into a seasonal five and dime department store through the chimney and lodged himself in there. Probably suffocated. Died in winter, found in summer when the store re-opened. You could smell him all up and down the block. Shop had to close for quite some time to get the stank out.

  4. Mike, was he trying to burgle the store? Cause if it was seasonal, and he tried this in winter, what did he expect to find in there? Idiot.
