Morbid Fact Du Jour for November 7, 2014

Today’s Wretched Yet Truly Morbid Fact!

In his Thesaurus of Horror, published in 1817, the English writer John Snart tells the sad tale of a certain Mr. Cornish, who had twice been mayor of Bath.  This gentleman died, it was believed, and was duly buried, but after the earth had been shoveled down onto the coffin, a hollow groan was heard from underground.  The coffin was speedily dug up and opened, and it was seen that the living corpse’s knees and elbows had been beaten raw.  The wretched man’s life could not be saved, however; in his customary highly charged prose, Snart wrote that “he had drunk the bitter cup of superlative misery to the dregs!”

Culled from: Buried Alive

Okay, as soon as I have a chance, I am going to be creating a limited edition cup that says, “The Bitter Cup of Superlative Misery” on the outside and “Dregs” on the inner bottom.  Would you buy it?

Morbid Education!

As my friend David Kulczyk says, “I miss the 70’s sometimes… nowadays parents would hit the ceiling over this educational film.”  Of course, it goes without saying that watching this film totally makes me want to go play on the railroad tracks!  I never knew there were so many fun games you can play!

The Finishing Line

Fan Mail Du Jour!

I just love the words of encouragement I receive on my blogs.  Like this one, for instance, on The Morbid Sightseer.  Isn’t it sweet?

“What’s up to every one, the contents existing at this website are genuinely amazing for people knowledge, well, keep up the nice work fellows.”

You’re darn tootin’ I will, “online blog sites”.  Strange user name, but hey…

Morbid Sightseeing!

When I was in Germany over the summer, I had this place on my long list, but it didn’t make the final cut.  Maybe next time…

Museum of Sepulchral Culture (Kassel, Germany)

This sounds like a goth dream come true!  A museum that blends death-themed modern art with ancient coffins, tombstones, hearses, framed death notices, memorial photography, embalming equipment, mourning clothing, etc.   Here’s an article that goes into greater depth on this fascinating museum:

German Museum of Death Anything But Morbid

Thanks to Steve ORourke for the link.
