Today’s Frenzied Yet Truly Morbid Fact!
After Jeffrey Dahmer was found guilty of murder and given multiple life sentences, he was housed in the Columbia Correctional Institution at Portage, Wisconsin, where he immediately became a marked man. Even his fellow murderers were appalled by Dahmer’s atrocious crimes and it was an open secret that some were just waiting for the opportunity to earn a place in history as the man who killed Jeffrey Dahmer. After all, what had they got to lose? Indeed it could be argued that slaying Dahmer might have qualified them for early parole. Dahmer himself remained philosophical. He was not afraid of his fellow inmates and took the view that he deserved everything he got – a sentiment roundly echoed by his victims’ families.
Early in 1995, while in the prison chapel, Dahmer survived an attack by a prisoner armed with a sharpened toothbrush. However his luck ran out on November 28 of that year.
Twenty-five-year-old Christopher Scarver was at Portage serving a life sentence for the execution-style murder of a Wisconsin Conservation Corps crew chief during an attempted robbery. He claimed to be the Son of God. That day in 1994, Scarver was working with Dahmer and 37-year-old Jesse Anderson scrubbing out the toilets next to one of the basketball courts. A brown belt in karate, Anderson was serving life for stabbing his wife Barbara to death outside a Milwaukee restaurant in 1992. He was not someone to be trifled with.

One of the two guards overseeing the prisoners had just left the basketball court when the attack took place. Wielding a 20-inch metal bar which he had removed from a piece of exercise equipment, Scarver launched into a frenzied assault on the two men. Dahmer suffered extensive head injuries and died on the way to the hospital. Anderson was also killed. Scarver was swiftly apprehended and allegedly confessed to the crimes, saying God had told him to do it.
Scarver initially pleaded not guilty on the grounds that he was suffering from a mental defect or disease but when psychologists determined that he was mentally competent to stand trial, he decided to change his plea to guilty on the two charges of first-degree intentional homicide. He was tried in May 1995. The only area of disagreement between the prosecution and Scarver’s lawyer, Steven Kohn, was the terms of his sentence. Columbia County District Attorney Mark Bennett asked that the judge impose two consecutive life sentences with 30 years in “enhancements” for committing repeat offenses and using a dangerous weapon. Mr. Kohn asked that the life sentences be served concurrently with no added time.. Judge Richard Rehm came down on the side of the prosecution, sentencing him to two consecutive life sentences plus 30 years. His parole eligibility date was set for the year 2077.

Dinoire’s daughter reported that the family is sure that the dog, which was euthanized, mutilated Dinoire by accident. They believe that the damage was caused when the dog, finding Dinoire wouldn’t wake up, got more and more frantic, and began scratching and clawing her. Dinoire was “heartbroken” when Tania was euthanized and kept a picture of the Labrador by her hospital bed; she later bought another dog to aid in her recovery after surgery.
